What is up, you guys?

It's your local diaspora crash out, aka, Empy.

Behind the Design:

     In the wake of the world today, as we know, art is always political...and that goes for this design as well. 🪬

     Maybe I'm just not active in those spaces anymore, but I haven't seen any South Asian art reflecting such times in my feed. I know, I know, there HAS to be someone out there doing it, but I couldn't escape it during the Urban Desi days, so I can't help but feel it's a bit quiet on the South Asian artists side. 🤔
     That being said, I already had this idea lined up for my monthly mehndi, so why not fill the space?💗

     ❤️‍🔥 "Chinga la migra", my sibling asked me why I decided to do it in Spanish, and my answer is simply, Oak Cliff. ❤️‍🔥
     A historically hispanic-dominated neighborhood, Oak Cliff has given Dallas vibrant culture, nightlife, and community. To write in English is fine, imo, but to write it in Spanish is more targeted and again, and to be written in mehndi, I believe communicates South Asian solidarity with the not only the affected immigrant, but the Hispanic - the Mexican, community that helped to shape my view of Dallas and it's art scene. 🇲🇽🌵🥳

The Concept:

     I've been wanting to do something with a heart centerpiece, since I find shapes that are unforgiving with alignment to be... extremely difficult 😔  and wanted to challenge myself from shying away from tough designs, especially when they're something I will definitely want over and over again. The rest was pretty go-with-the-flow. Experimented with some pieces I don't typically do, including writing in general. 😵‍💫

Very girly, very c*nty. This concept was calling for the nail rings 🤩

The Graphics:

I was actually pretty pleased with the design so I decided to map it out, not only to remember for future purposes, but also potentially to create something cute, shareable, and still getting the message across - South Asian solidarity with the immigrant communities affected by ICE.

     Feel free to download, save, share with your friends, print it out, whatever you want. I only ask that you tag me on Instagram so I can see too (: I'll be working on a simplified concept to offer as flash sheets, because if you missed it - I got roped into the mehndi world. Very exciting and unforeseen turn of events for me, but now you guys can find me in real life and get your henna done by me 🤪✨

Mehndi Update:

     If you missed it, I am offering flash henna at The 5 Club's Permanent Market this Saturday. Fingers crossed that the snow storm isn't too bad.
